Today we've arrived to Hammerfest - world's northernmost town. Even
tough it is quite small there are lots of people and cars, there are
even traffic jams, but mostly because of reindeers that are walking in
the town.
We went up to Varden lookout tower, enjoyed
traditional waffles with sour cream and strawberry jam and the
beautiful view on Hammerfest.
We also went to see fountain in
the town square that was presented to Hammerfest by an American
ambassador whose mother was from this town, but the fountain was not
working.
From Hammerfest we continued to Alta where we were staying overnight.
Alta
is quite small but cosy place. All services are concentrated on the
main square. We had a good supper in a local place "Omega" with
northernmost beer Mock from Tromsø. Then we played chess on the town
square under midnight sun and enjoyed the view of the sun over the
ocean.
A long drive to Tromsø awaited us next day.
