After Inari we drove towards the Norwegian border. We crossed Norwegian it and drove 16 more kilometers to Karasjok. It was a good time to shift our clock one hour backwards.
While looking for the log house that we've reserved we found quite weird looking building that turned out to be Sami parliament. It doesn't really have any real power, all its decisions are to be treated as recommendations only.
We stayed at Engholm Husky log cabins (www.engholm.no) - an absolutely fascinating place. Very well equipped houses made entirely out of wood with all decorations and furniture made out of wood as well. Somehow it feels very authentic.
We were recommended to visit a Gammen restaurant - yet another excellent place. This restaurant is located entirely underground with a wooden roof and grass that grows on it. Restaurant visitors sit around an open fire on reindeer skins, smoke goes up into a special hole. From the outside - it looks just like a lot of chimneys sticking out of the ground. Food is good and is pretty much local - reindeer meet, salmon, potatoes, lingonberries. That was quite a unique experience.
